Traffic Control Center

The current project is realized by a collaboration between VHP (Voskamp, Huppes & Peereboom) and USI (User System Interaction) for Dutch National Traffic Control Center.

Design and visualize a detailed concept of the user interface for the Traffic Center, build prototype of the final design and evaluate this concept with users.

Duration: 6 weeks

The idea of the time-related map and the different mode views for an operator was designed. This key feature is unique and it changes completely the way how an operator works with flows of information in the traffic center and makes it easier.

Operating with a map

The result of this project is a prototype that shows couple of nice solutions. As a central object we use a map. It gives an operator clear idea and overview what is going on in specific area.

Traffic Center
Current traffic situation in the region

Map contains the following layers of information:

  • Geographical information

Typical information in Google Maps like cities and streets

  • Road traffic data

Information about accidents, traffic jams and road lanes

  • Weather

    Current weather and forecast

  • Live video from road cameras

Can be usefull as an additional source of information

  • Planning and history layer

Information about events in the past and in the future. Based on previous experience system can predict some events or operator can manually plan them.
